GE Equipment creates unhealthy work environment

Loud equipment caused a big noise issue for GE. The equipment noise was so great that it created a difficult work environment for all employees. Concern grew that this noise problem caused worker dissatisfaction and fatigue, while OHSA regulations warned high noise levels over 110 DB would lead to violations.

That is when management contacted All Noise Control to help them fix this problem. As a standard solution provided for an application like this, All Noise Control suggested an enclosure for the loud equipment with ANC-AB1 acoustical blanket and curtain system. Acoustic blankets are a composite material containing absorption materials attached to noise barriers. Typically, 1” of high density absorption fiberglass is bonded on either side of 1/8” vinyl sound barrier for a total thickness of 2 1/8” overall. The product is heavy; vinyl sound barrier weights 1 pound per square foot alone. Acoustic blanket composite provides a great sound protection of 20 – 40 DB loss depending on frequency.

It is also highly adaptable as it is sold in 4’ by any custom length necessary, any size wide can be accomplished with the flexibility of connecting blanket with velcro and can house door and window openings also.

GE was very pleased with the results of the acoustic enclosure in their plant. Not only were OHSA regulations satisfied by the noise level drop but the employees no longer needed earplugs as well.
